Mom & Daddo's Wild Night Out!

In the picture to the right, you will find the ultra-hot Martinez parents getting ready for the pinnacle of family fun: a night away from the children, rockin' out with the Purple One himself. That's right people; we ditched our kids for Prince. At first, Patrick wouldn't really tell me where we were going, but as soon as we walked up to the Roosevelt hotel and I saw the phallic, male-female, swirly "artist formerly known as" symbol, I knew. So, first off, let me just tell you about the awesome dinner, compliments of Prince's personal chef. I won't bore you with too many details, just remember these four words: crunchy brown sugar crust. I don't know how it was achieved, but our meal of lump crab cake and perfectly seasoned filet mignon was topped off with a white chocolate mousse dessert that had this spectacular brown sugar crust. The crust alone was worth the not so mildly insane ticket price. When we finished dinner at around 10:00 (yes, that's pm) we moved to the lounge. Our two and a half hour wait for Princey Boy to take the stage was punctuated by the occassional celebrity arrival: Courtney Cox, Jessica Biel, Chris Rock, Alannis Morissette, Eve, Michael Rappaport, Carlos Mencia, etc. We were also entertained by a group of total strangers sitting next to us, who bonded ever-so-quickly over their common carreer: lifetime professional club hoppers. It was totally obvious to us that we were not nearly cool enough to even be sitting in their vicinity. But as parents, we've become increasingly aware of and comfortable with our lack of hipness, so we were alright. They finally started to seat us at midnight, and we were about twenty feet from the stage on these big leather couches that took up the banquet room he was playing in. There were about seventy losers who didn't blow their daughters' dowries on Prince tickets crammed into the SRO section in the back, but not us. No, we were right up there with Tommy Lee, Michelle Rodriguez, Nicky Hilton, Eve, and Mark McGrath (when he finally showed up). When the Minneapolis Mini Man finally took the stage at 12:30 am, the party was just getting started. His jazz band came out in full regalia with "When the Saints Come Marching In." Then he did some cool bluesy stuff, some songs from the new album, and a few of the classics like, Cream, If I Was Your Girlfriend, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Take Me With U, and Kiss. Some highlights were watching Tommy Lee's manic air drum solos, all whilst frantically twisting his gum around his forefinger, and Chris Rock totally gettin' down with Alannis during Cream. After about 90 minutes of some of the best live music I have ever heard, the lights went down, the purple spot lit center stage, and Prince turned his back to the audience. Of course, he would end with Purple Rain! How else would you expect to top off such an overall awesome show. Well, that wasn't the end. We moved out to the lobby where some lackeys started to soundcheck for the Jazz band. It was then that we noticed Marissa Tomei standing right next to us. She didn't have her Oscar with her though. Bummer! Finally, at around 3:00 the band started jamming. We were seriously thinking about getting out of there when Prince showed up in his little Pink pjs - wasn't that a song of his? Maybe I'm confused. Anyway, he picked up a guitar and demonstrated his musical genius for about 45 minutes. Every so often he would come back and fiddle with the sound board about two feet away from where we were sitting. Awesome! When he finally turned in for the night, so did we. We pulled into our driveway at about 5:00 am and saw the sun coming up. I haven't seen that side of the clock without a kid on my boob since high school. It was a ridiculous amount of money, insane hours for parents of an infant and a toddler to keep, and totally worth it! We probably won't ever have that much fun again, ever. Thanks Prince! (oh yeah- and thanks Aunt Rhonda for babysitting!)

Poor Baby Fi takes feeding herself into her own hands as her parents vanish into the night!

You don't need to be an English teacher to be a great and entertaining writer. I'm going to enjoy reading your stories. You're hilarious!
