ThirdChristmas

You know how Taco Bell is exploiting the collective self-indulgence of the American public with their ridiculous "Fourthmeal" ad campaign? Well, we're doing the same thing with our kids, only we're using Christmas to propel them into the world of excess. Since, our family was scattered every way the wind blows this Christmas, we have had to meet up with each individual relative for a separate gift exchange. We did Great Grandma Joie a few weeks ago, and this weekend it was Chris and Rhonda. Mind you, we still have Grandpa Les and Grandma Sue to go. I will applaud Aunt Rhonda's will power this time, as she managed to not go completely crazy with the gift giving. Maddie got an Easy Bake Oven, a bathing suit with cover up (Fi got a matching one), and a robe. Here's the dialogue from when Maddo unwrapped the Easy Bake Oven:

Maddie (shouting): "Cool! Cool! Cool!"

Pat: Do you know what it is?

Maddie: No.

Fi scored a singing, light-up workbench and some squishy cars that both girls really loved. After we opened them, Maddie pleaded, "Can Fi share?" and then proceeded to hoard all of the cars for herself. Typical.

It didn't take long for her to convince Aunt Rhonda to crack open the Easy Bake and whip up a treat. By the way, Rhonda and I both remember the Easy Bake food tasting much better than it does now. Maybe it is only suitable for juvenile taste buds.

Fifi lovin' on Uncle Chris

P.S. - If any of you other parents out there want to join me in lobbying against the toy companies to make them stop shackling toys into their packaging with a mile of tape and those infernal twisties, call me.

I just got Annie a new Little People thing from Target (Oma and Georgie gave us a gift card, so we wouldn't have to tote so much back to Cali). Anywho, the wire twisties were simply wrapped once around little knobs. It took seconds to open Annie's new toy. Perhaps this is a new thing! I hope so!
